Bleeding brakes the traditional way takes two people: one on the pedal, one on the bleed nipple, and a shouted count between them. A hand vacuum pump takes the second person out of the job — old fluid is drawn through from the caliper end while you watch the reservoir yourself.
What the gauge is actually telling you
The gauge covers 0-30 inHg (0-760 mmHg), close to the full vacuum available at sea level. Squeezing the grip pulls that vacuum down the hose, drawing old fluid and trapped air out of the line and into the 120 mL tank. The reading matters as much as the suction: if the needle will not hold, something in the chain is leaking, and on a brake system that is worth chasing down before the pedal tells you about it.
The same pump does diagnostic work
Away from brakes it is simply a vacuum source with a gauge attached, useful for testing the parts of a vehicle that run on manifold vacuum, and the supplier lists motorcycle brake lines alongside car systems. One tip carried over from the manufacturer: soak a nozzle in hot water for a second or two before fitting, which softens it just enough to push onto a fitting cleanly.
Key features
- One-person operation: vacuum replaces the second set of hands on the pedal.
- 120 mL catch tank: holds the old fluid instead of letting it run down the backing plate.
- 0-760 mmHg gauge: shows whether the system is holding vacuum, not just that the pump is pumping.
- Two hose lengths: 56 cm to reach a rear caliper, 10 cm for close work at the bench.

Before you start
Brakes are safety-critical and a bleeder kit does not change that. Follow the bleed sequence and fluid specification in your vehicle's service manual, keep the reservoir topped up throughout, and check pedal feel properly before the vehicle goes back on the road.
