A car that stumbles under load, starts hard when hot, or dies at idle hands you a list of suspects: pump, regulator, filter, injectors. A pressure reading at the rail cuts that list down in about ten minutes, and it tells you whether the fuel side is worth investigating at all before any parts get bought.

Reading the pressure instead of guessing

The gauge is dual scale, 0–7 bar and 0–100 psi, so it reads against whichever unit the workshop manual uses without arithmetic in a driveway. What comes out of it is a diagnosis rather than a parts swap. A low reading behind a clean filter points at the pump; a high reading at the regulator; pressure that bleeds away after shutdown at a leaking injector or a failed check valve.

Three adapter sizes and brass fittings

The adapters cover 6.30 mm (SAE 1/4), 7.89 mm (SAE 5/16) and 9.49 mm (SAE 3/8) lines, the sizes most commonly found on older EFI and carburettor plumbing. Brass is used at the connections because it will not corrode into a fitting and seals against soft line without cutting it. The hose is rubber with a corrosion-resistant finish; its length is not published.

Fuel under pressure — read this first

• A fuel system holds pressure after the engine stops. Relieve it the way the manufacturer specifies before opening a line.
• Work in a ventilated space, keep ignition sources and hot exhaust well clear, and have rags and a fire extinguisher within reach.
• Check your line size against the three supplied adapters before ordering. The supplier calls the kit universal; the adapters that ship with it are not.
• The dial reads to 7 bar. Do not connect it to a high-pressure direct-injection rail, which operates far above that range.

A gauge, a hose and three adapters is a small outlay against the cost of replacing a fuel pump that was never the problem.
