Run a single-cylinder diesel with a tired oil pump and nothing dramatic happens at first. Clearances open up, the big end starts to rattle under load, and a bore that was fine last season picks up a score. The pump is one of the cheapest parts on the engine, sitting in front of one of the most expensive failures.
Sized to the 186F, 188F and 192F crankcase
The pump measures 73 x 65 x 8 mm and weighs 61 g, which tells you plainly this is a thin plate-style unit bolted to the case, not a large gerotor assembly. Those dimensions are worth checking against what you are pulling out, because the 186F family covers many badge-engineered engines and the mounting pattern is not identical across them.
Iron, because of where it lives
An oil pump runs continuously in hot oil with fine metal debris passing through it, so the wear faces matter far more than the weight does. Iron holds a machined surface against that sort of abrasion better than a soft alloy, and keeps its clearances as the engine comes up to temperature instead of growing away from them.
Key features
- Iron construction: holds machined clearances in hot, contaminated oil.
- Slim 8 mm body: the plate format used on these air-cooled singles.
- Three listed engines: 186F, 188F and 192F single-cylinder air-cooled diesels.
- Light and simple: at 61 g it is a bench-level replacement, not an engine-out job.

Fitting notes and cautions
- Check the bolt centres and plate thickness against your old pump before stripping further — the 186F family is not uniform.
- No gasket specification is published. Have the correct gasket or sealant on hand before you open the case.
- Prime the pump with clean engine oil on assembly so it picks up on the first crank.
- Drop the sump oil and clean the pickup screen while you are in there; whatever killed the old pump will kill this one.
Cheap insurance on an engine that gives very little warning before it lets go.
