Ordering a replacement tank on model number alone is how people end up with a part that will not bolt up. The mounting holes decide it, not the badge. This one has its hole spacing published — roughly 11.5 x 7 cm — so the old tank can be measured across the bosses first.
Measure across the bosses first
Put a rule across the centres of the two mounting holes and compare it against 11.5 x 7 cm, then check the overall footprint of about 22 x 9 cm. Those two figures are worth more than any model list, because trimmer housings were revised through the production run while the model number stayed put.
Across the FS and FR line-up
Compatibility is given for the FS120, FS200 and FS250R, and also the FS300, FS350, FR350, FR450 and FR480 — a broader spread than the title lists. The tank arrives with its filler cap, weighs about 260 g gross and is supplied dry. The moulding is PC, described as corrosion resistant and high in hardness, which on a backpack machine is what stops a scrape against a fence post becoming a stress crack a fortnight later.

Fuel safety when you change it
- Empty the old tank outdoors into a container meant for petrol, and keep naked flames, hot exhausts and cigarettes well clear.
- Let the machine cool and pull the plug lead before opening the fuel system.
- Fuel vapour pools at ground level in a closed shed. Open the doors, or work outside.
- Replace the fuel line, filter and tank grommet at the same time if they have hardened.
Measure twice, order once — the hole spacing above is the number that matters.
