Flare fittings are named twice over, and that is where orders go wrong. A fitting called 3/8 inch is not 3/8 of an inch across anything you can measure on it — the number refers to the tube it was designed around, while the thread is a different figure altogether. This brass adapter joins two of those sizes, and the supplier publishes both numbers for each end.
Two sizes, each named two ways
One end is 3/8 inch female flare, given in the product title as 5/8"-18UNF. The other is 1/2 inch male flare, given as 3/4"-16UNF. Take the thread figures as the ones to match on, because they are what a thread gauge will actually confirm. Worth knowing before you order: the supplier does not publish a flare angle anywhere in its data. Flare fittings come in more than one angle and they do not interchange, so identify the angle of the fitting you are joining to rather than assuming this one matches it.
Brass, and the range published for it
The body is described as heavy-duty brass, credited with corrosion resistance, ductility at high temperature and low permeability. That last property is the one that earns brass its place on gas and fuel work: a low-permeability metal does not let vapour creep through the wall of the fitting over time the way some plastics do. No pressure figure of any kind is published, which is a significant omission on a fitting offered for gas and fuel duty.
Male to female, which is why it comes apart
The supplier's stated advantage over a plain coupling is that a female flare by male flare arrangement can be broken and remade without disturbing the rest of the run. On a caravan gas line or an oil feed that has to come apart for service, that is a real convenience: one nut backs off and the joint separates, instead of the whole assembly having to be unwound from one end. A licensed gas fitter must carry out and test any connection carrying LPG or natural gas, and that applies to caravans, campers and fixed appliances alike. - No pressure rating appears anywhere in the supplier's data. On a fitting offered for gas, fuel and air, that is a serious gap. No number is published that could be compared with your own system pressure. Ask the supplier before relying on it.
