A split in an air line halfway down its length usually means throwing out a good hose because there is nothing on the shelf to join the two ends back together. A straight barbed mender solves it in a minute: cut the damage out, push a barb into each cut end, clamp both sides. Twelve of them in this pack.

Same size in, same size out

This is a straight union rather than a reducer, so it joins two hoses of the same bore. The barb diameter is published as 6.5 mm against a nominal 1/4 inch, and each mender is 42.5 mm long overall. That length is the specification worth reading, because a mender has to divide between two hose ends, with enough ribbed barb going well into each of them. A long barb is what stops a hose walking off under vibration and pressure cycling. The clamp holds the hose down onto the ribs; the ribs themselves do the resisting.

Brass, and what the supplier claims for it

Solid brass is the material. The supplier states these are corrosion resistant, withstand extreme temperatures, handle high pressures, and resist degradation from chemicals and UV better than rubber or plastic connectors. Those are its words, and they arrive with no figures attached. No working pressure, no burst pressure and no temperature range appears anywhere in the data. That absence matters more than the adjectives do, and it is reproduced here rather than filled in.

Before you fit these

• No pressure rating and no temperature rating is published for these menders. Never assume a fitting matches the hose it joins, or the system pressure it will sit in.
• The supplier's application list names air, water, gas, oil, fuel, coolant and vacuum, along with pneumatic circuits, irrigation and air conditioning maintenance. That list is its own. Nothing here states suitability for brake fluid, ethanol blends or high-pressure fuel injection.
• Hose and clamp selection is the installer's responsibility, and clamps are not supplied. Choose both to suit the fluid, pressure and temperature of your own system.
• Coolant and fuel circuits run hot and under pressure. Have that work done by someone competent, and check every join under pressure before the vehicle is driven.
