Rubber Drain Plug T Handle Twist Plugs for Boat Drains

A drain bung that is a size under does not leak politely. It holds while the boat sits on the trailer, then lets go under way. Turn it and the rubber does the sealing

There is no thread here, so there is nothing to cross-thread and nothing to strip. The plug drops into the opening and the handle turns clockwise, squeezing the rubber body between two plates until it bulges outward and grips the wall of the drain. That is precisely why the size has to be right: rubber has a working range of expansion, not an unlimited one. Anti-clockwise releases the squeeze and the plug lifts straight out, which is handy at the end of the day when you want the bilge emptying while you are still tying down.

Stainless where the water sits

The handle is solid stainless steel and the plug is rubber. A transom drain is permanently in the splash zone, and for anyone launching in salt it is permanently in the worst of it. Stainless is the reason this handle can live down there season after season instead of pitting and seizing until a routine bung removal turns into a job for pliers. The rubber keeps conforming to the bore each time it is compressed.

Measure the hole, not the old plug

• Take the inside diameter of the drain itself. A 1-1/4 inch bung and a 1 inch bung look near enough identical in a photograph, and neither seals in the other's hole.
• Check the plug is seated and firm before every launch, then check it again a few minutes into the water.
• This is a hull sealing part. If the bore is scored, worn oval or corroded, a new plug is not the repair the boat needs.

One bore size, one bung. Get the measurement right and it becomes the least dramatic fitting on the boat.
