Twisted joints wrapped in tape cause the intermittent faults that take a whole weekend to chase — a driving light that flickers over corrugations, a trailer plug that works until it rains. A properly crimped and insulated terminal fixes the joint mechanically and keeps moisture off the copper.
Two hundred terminals across three types
The assortment runs to 100 butt connectors in five colours, 50 female spade terminals and 50 male spades. Between them that covers the two jobs auto wiring actually throws at you: joining a broken or extended run end to end, and making a connection you can pull apart again for a light, a switch or an accessory. Having both halves of the spade pair in quantity is the useful part, since a separable joint saves cutting wire next time a component comes out.
Read the colours carefully on this set
On most terminals sold here the insulator colour tells you the wire range — red for the smallest, then blue, then yellow. The supplier states that on this set the red, blue, yellow, green and black terminals are all the same specification, so colour is for identifying circuits, not sizing. Match the terminal to the published wire range rather than the usual code.
Key features
- 200 pieces in the box: enough for a trailer, a light bar and a set of accessories.
- Matched spade pairs: 50 male and 50 female, so every separable joint has both halves.
- Insulated barrels: the sleeve covers the crimp and the bare wire behind it in one action.
- Five insulator colours: useful for marking circuits, since all five share one size rating.
Specifications
- Quantity: 100 butt connectors, 50 female spades, 50 male spades
- Wire range: AWG 22-16, as stated by the supplier
- Supplier part codes: FRD1.25-156 (female), MPD1.25-156 (male)
- Insulation: PVC
- Insulator colours: red, blue, yellow, green, black
- Conductor metal: the supplier says copper in one line and brass in another, so treat it as unconfirmed
- Current rating: not published by the supplier
Before you crimp these
- The stated range is AWG 22-16. The supplier's metric equivalent is garbled in its own listing, so match on AWG or measure your conductor.
- Colour does not indicate size on this set. Do not assume the usual red, blue and yellow sizing.
- Use a ratchet crimping tool rather than pliers, and pull-test every joint. A crimp that looks right but is not gripping is the classic cause of a heat fault.
- Anything tied into vehicle safety or charging circuits should be wired by a qualified auto electrician.
Keep the box in the ute and most roadside wiring problems become a five-minute fix.
