Trailer plugs fail quietly. Pins corrode inside the cover over a wet winter and you find out on the morning of the trip, when the tail lights come on but one indicator stays dead. Chasing that fault along an ageing run of cable takes longer than replacing the run, which is what this kit is for.
Where 26 feet of wire actually goes
The supplier gives an overall length of 26 ft (roughly 7.9 m) plus a 2.5 ft ground lead, enough to rewire a trailer end to end rather than patch one section of it. The harness uses a Y-shaped split with the branch at the front, so each side of the trailer is fed down its own rail. Nothing has to be run across the axle, which is exactly where a conductor gets pinched, chafed and dunked on a boat trailer. Suitability is stated for trailers both under and over 80 inches wide.
Colour coding is a convention, not a guarantee
Five colour-coded conductors terminate in a male 4-pin flat plug, intended to mate with a 4-way flat socket. Colour coding makes the job readable, but connector patterns and wiring colours differ between vehicles, trailers and markets. Match every conductor to the function it actually feeds on your own trailer and tow vehicle rather than trusting the colours to line up. Underneath the sleeving the conductors are 18 AWG, described by the supplier as pure copper, jacketed in thickened PVC with a braided nylon oversleeve on the outside.
Key features
- Front-mounted Y split: feeds both sides without a conductor crossing the axle, the most common wear point on a trailer loom.
- 18 AWG conductors: supplier describes them as pure copper for the full length.
- Braided nylon oversleeve: takes the abrasion where the loom passes over a crossmember or through a hole.
- Covered plug: the supplier calls the protective cover waterproof and dustproof; no IP figure is published, so that is their description rather than a rating.
- Full-length replacement: 26 ft gives you a fresh run instead of splicing into old, hardened cable.

Before you wire it in
- This harness feeds tail, brake and indicator lights. Nothing in the listing names an Australian standard, approval or compliance mark, so confirm the requirements that apply to your vehicle, your trailer and your state before using it on the road.
- Connector patterns vary widely. Confirm your tow vehicle socket is a 4-pin flat pattern, and confirm which pin does what, before cutting anything.
- No current rating is published for the harness or the plug. Add up the draw of the lamps you intend to feed and have an auto electrician confirm 18 AWG suits it, particularly over a run this length.
- Clip the loom down clear of the axle, springs and exhaust, and seal every joint you make yourself.
Best treated as a full rewire kit rather than a repair splice. Check your socket pattern first, then order with the right pin functions in front of you.
