Plastic quick-connectors on a fuel line have a finite life. Heat cycling and age make them brittle, and eventually one cracks the moment it is unclipped - usually mid-job, with the tank half full and the shops shut.
Sized 7.89 mm to 6 mm, and both figures matter
Two measurements decide whether this connector is any use. The inner ring diameter is 7.89 mm, the side that mates to the existing line, and the barb takes nylon tube of 6 mm inner diameter. Neither number should be rounded or eyeballed. Measure what is on the vehicle before ordering, because a fitting a fraction out either weeps at the joint or lets go under pressure - not a mistake worth making twice on a fuel line.
Ninety degrees where a straight fitting will not go
The angle between the female socket and the hose barb is a right angle, and that is the reason to choose it over a straight fitting. The hose turns at the joint instead of looping around to make the bend. Behind a wheel arch or hard against a chassis rail, the radius saved is the difference between a tidy run and a hose resting on something hot. The supplier states it pushes together by hand, no tools needed.
Key features
- Supplied as a pair: two connectors per order, so one can stay in the toolbox.
- Right-angle body: turns the hose at the joint rather than forcing a loop into a tight space.
- 7.89 mm inner ring: the dimension that has to match the line side of the joint.
- 6 mm barb: sized for nylon tube with a 6 mm inner diameter.
Specifications
- Quantity: 2
- Connector angle: 90 degrees
- Inner ring diameter: 7.89 mm
- Hose barb: for nylon tube of 6 mm inner diameter
- Material: plastic
- Fluid compatibility: the supplier states "fuel/gas and liquids" and names no specific fuel
Before you fit these
- Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the battery before opening a line. Work in the open or in a well-ventilated space, keep ignition sources and cigarettes away, and catch whatever drains out.
- The supplier does not name petrol, diesel or any other specific fluid as compatible. Confirm suitability for your application first rather than assuming petrol is covered.
- Check both diameters against the line being joined. These are fitment-critical figures and cannot be adapted or shimmed.
- Look over the joint for weeping with the engine running before the vehicle goes back on the road.
A cheap consumable, far better bought before it is needed than on the day it is.
