Coolant hose repairs usually come down to two problems: joining a length that has been cut back past a split, and finding somewhere to put a sender. This aluminium coupler handles both at once — a 1-1/4 inch barb at each end and a 1/8" NPT boss on the side of the body.
The flange in the middle is the detail
Look at the centre of the coupler and there is a raised collar between the two barbed ends. It is there so the two hose ends butt against something instead of sliding past each other, which means each side gets the same barb engagement and neither ends up two-thirds on. On a splice you cannot see once the shroud is back, that is the difference between a repair that holds and one that weeps at the next cold start. The supplier calls it a hose flange that keeps the coupler centred.
What the supplier names, and what it does not
The stated hose size is 1-1/4", which the source describes as the factory upper radiator hose size on LS-family engines. Beyond the radiator, the supplier lists brake booster and vacuum line hose among the applications. Both of those are vacuum lines, not hydraulic ones. Nothing in the data gives a pressure figure, a temperature figure or an alloy grade — "durable and high-temperature aluminum" is the whole of what is said about the material.
Key features
- 1/8" NPT boss: a temperature sender or gauge fitting screws into the side of the splice.
- Centring flange: both hose ends seat to the same depth on the barbs.
- Barbed both ends: ribbed profile for a clamp to pull the hose into.
- Aluminium body: the material the supplier states.

Cooling and vacuum lines: check these points
- Cooling systems are pressurised and run hot. Never open one that has not cooled, and match hose and clamps to the pressure and temperature of your own system — this coupler carries no published rating to size them against.
- No pressure figure is published for this fitting. Do not assume it is rated to whatever the hose is rated to, or the reverse.
- The supplier lists brake booster hose among the applications. That is a vacuum line. No rating for brake hydraulic fluid is published and no suitability for a brake fluid line is claimed here. Any work on a braking system should be carried out by a qualified mechanic.
- The sentence "put your top radiator hose into 1/8 NPT port to feed crossover tube" appears in the source. It is unclear as written and should not be read as a fitting instruction.
- Measure the outside diameter of your hose against the barb before ordering. A nominal 1-1/4 inch hose is not always 1-1/4 inch.
A tidy way to put a sender in a top hose without cutting a fitting into a radiator tank.
