A lining that keeps the water out

Inside sits a water-resistant layer between your hand and the wet pile — a small thing until you are an hour into a wash on a cold morning. • Rinse thoroughly after use and let them air dry, as the supplier advises.
• No scratch-free or paint-safe claim is made for these mitts; one that has touched the ground or picked up grit should be rinsed out or retired before it goes near paint.
• Test on a small area first if you are unsure about a finish.
• Keep the mitts used on wheels and lower panels separate from the ones you use up top.
