Letting a car air-dry is how water spots get etched into clear coat, and in an Australian summer a panel can be dry before you have finished walking around the car. A dense drying towel pulls the water off in one pass instead of chasing beads across the bonnet with something thin.
What 1200 GSM actually buys you
GSM is grams per square metre, the weight of fibre packed into the cloth. At 1200 GSM this sits at the heavy end of drying towels, and the practical effect is capacity: more fibre holds more water before the cloth stops taking any up, so a panel gets dried rather than smeared. The pile is twisted-loop on both faces, which the supplier describes as resisting shedding.
Sized to cover a panel, not a mirror
Each towel measures 91.4 by 61 cm. That is big enough to lay flat over a bonnet and draw towards you, the technique that keeps grit travelling off the paint instead of being worked in circles. Folded into quarters, one towel gives eight usable faces before it needs rinsing. Away from the car the same size handles glass, mirrors and door shuts.
Key features
- 1200 GSM microfibre: heavy enough to hold a bonnet's worth of water before it stops absorbing.
- Twisted-loop pile both sides: a soaked face is one flip away from a dry one.
- 91.4 by 61 cm: covers a full panel per pass and folds down to eight working faces.
- Machine washable: normal cycle and a low tumble dry, with no special laundering gear needed.

Rinse, drag, flip, and the car is dry before the first spot has had a chance to set.
Keeping the pile alive
- Fabric softener is what kills microfibre. It coats the fibres so they stop taking up water, so use a mild detergent on its own and keep bleach away.
- Wash them apart from cotton towels, fleece and anything else that sheds lint into the loops.
- Tumble dry on low or hang them, since high heat stiffens the fibre for good.
