The listing is unusually direct on this. It states the pump suits water, diesel, kerosene and light oils, and that it is not designed for petrol, solvents, acids or abrasive fluids. Petrol is excluded by name. That is not a caution to work around: petrol vapour ignites from a spark a switched motor can easily produce, and this unit carries no explosion-protection rating of any kind. What is in your drawer decides the batteries

It runs on six AA cells or two D cells, whichever configuration you have, and neither is supplied. Operation is a single red push-button — no priming, no valve to set, no dials. The hose is 120 cm of thick-walled full-bellows corrugated tubing, which is the part that resists kinking when it is fed over the lip of a drum and down into a can. The body is ABS with a textured grip and a moulded hook for hanging it on a wall or a container rim.

Handling fuel with it

• Petrol is outside what this pump is designed for, by the supplier's own statement. Do not use it on petrol under any circumstances.
• Work outdoors or somewhere genuinely ventilated. Diesel vapour is less volatile than petrol vapour but it is still a vapour.
• Keep it away from ignition sources — no naked flame, no grinder, no smoking, no hot exhaust nearby.
• Keep the battery case and switch above the liquid at all times. The motor housing must never be submerged.
• Check both hose ends are seated in the source and the receiving container before switching on.
• Rinse the hose and intake with clean water after use and air-dry completely before it goes back on the hook.

A simple, honest tool inside the fluid list the supplier gives. Anything outside that list needs different equipment.
