How a wired dash becomes a wireless one

It plugs into the USB or Type-C socket your phone normally uses and presents itself to the car as a wired Android Auto device. The phone sets the link up over Bluetooth 5.0, then hands the stream to a 5 GHz WiFi connection, the band with more headroom for a live moving map. Nothing is cut or spliced. Pull it out and the port is what it always was.

Small enough to forget about

At 60 mm long and 13 mm across it is smaller than a car key, so it sits in a cubby or tucks behind dash trim without fouling the gear lever. Power comes from the car's own 5 V socket at around 30 mA, so there is no separate lead to run and no drain worth worrying about.

Check this before you order

• Your car must already have wired Android Auto. This converts an existing system, it does not add one.
• Android 11 or later required. iPhones and Apple CarPlay are not covered.
• Aftermarket accessory, not a Google or Apple product, and no Android Auto or MFi certification we can verify.

If the dash already does Android Auto and the cable is the only thing in the way, this is the cheap fix.
